Liverpool Lou

I made a fruit cake at the weekend
but the top of it cracked quite a bit
can anyone tell me what I'am doing wrong!!!


Oven too hot

My answer would be that your oven was too hot.
The cakes cooked too fast on the outside.
If it is a heavy fruit cake you can always put a piece of parchment on the top for the last 30 mins or so.
With a heavy fruit cake I always cut out a shape for the top when preparing the tin., then it is to hand if ai need it.
Try turning your oven down a tad, that may well be the answer.
