Talking of Cakes......

Many chocolate cake recipes tell you to add a tablespoon or so of coffee to the mixture. I love coffee flavoured cake (my favourite) and chocolate too but have never had the "courage" to add coffee to chocolate recipes. Can someone tell me please whether or not it improves the taste of the chocolate and if coffee cake haters would detect it?

Choccy-with-added-coffee cake

I've made cakes with this mixture and it's nice. You can't actually say, after eating, that you can taste the coffee as such but you know there's something different. It makes a very nice but sympathetic blend.
Incidentally, I don't actually like coffee cake but enjoy the above.

Coffee in chocolate cake

Essex Girl, adding coffee enhances the chocolate flavour. Add too much and of course you can taste it but just a little certainly makes a difference to the chocolate flavour. Like adding a square of chocolate to chilli. Mind you I love chocolate and coffee so much I could be happy adding them to anything!!

Think cappuccino with chocolate sprinkled on top - delish.

Chocolate/Coffee Cake

Must admit that I usually make a chocolate filling and topping when I make a coffee and walnut cake.
