Where can I buy "proper" tablespoons, desert spoons and teaspoons that I can use for measuring accurately and storing? Thanks.

Any supermarket or kitchen shop you encounter. The set probably won't include a dessertspoon, but for simplicity I take it as half a tablespoon or two teaspoons. Usually the small inaccuracy is not important.

If they're for measuring, why not go for the proper measuring spoons, that usually come in a set. Very useful.

I assumed that was what WC meant when she said go to a kitchen shop. They won't include a dessertspoon as it's not considered a 'proper' spoon measure. Although I notice Delia uses them sometimes.

Tablespoons.

How is a desert spoon not a measure? Never heard that before. I have two sets of measuring spoons, both include a dessert spoon.

Mine have been handed down and I do prefer them to measuring spoons - always been rather retro. !
When my son asked if he could have any I didn't use just could not part with them. Instead found local car boot/ market a great source - two tablespoons, two dessertspoons, two teaspoons and three bone handled knives for £1.50 !!

Yes it's best just to buy a set, really easy to get anywhere, supermarkets have them .

As James says , a dessert spoon is still a measure and its included on the sets I own .

Measuring spoons

I was given Pampered Chef measuring spoons for Christmas. One is slim and has a sliding mechanism which measures from 1/4 - 1tsp and is great in spice jars. The other is wider and measures from 1 tsp to 1 tbs, graduated in 1/2 tsps.

I love them.

Maybe it's just an Aussie thing - never seen a dessertspoon in a measuring set.
I don't think the American sets we get here have a dessertspoon, either.
Must be different in the UK!

The reason dessert spoons are not a 'proper' measure is because they are either two teaspoons or half a tablespoon.

But in the scheme of things half a teaspoon difference is neither here nor there.
