Dried Cranberries, expiry date

Got some dried cranberries left over from last christmas, enough for this years turkey stuffing. I have taped the pkt over but the expiry date says Feb 2012. My instinct says they are safe to use. They look and smell ok & it`s seems a bit of a waste to throw them.
what would anyone else do please?

Thanks

Expiry date

For a dried fruit, I wouldn't worry too much about Use-by date being Feb 2011. It's to protect the producer in that it's possible the fruit will lose flavour.

Dried Cranberries, expiry date

Yes, I agree. I have dried fruit that has sometimes hung around a bit, ditto pulses, grains etc.

If in doubt with fruit, have a taste & then decide - but the only things I am more picky about is nuts, because they can go horrid & taste oily if they are old, and flour - cos if you have ever seen an old bag of flour with those little bug things, well yukko (I saw some at a friends house once - eek). They are probably harmless but they give me the creeps.

Nuts

I always keep nuts in the freezer. They can be used frozen. Don't go rancid or develop other off flavours.

Nuts

Nuts - keep in freezer? Never heard that before, but it's brilliant!! Thanks for the tip, I'll do that as soon as I have room again!
