Hi
I was thinking, you can buy frozen pork pies, so surely you can freeze homemade ones, I don't see why not!?!?

I always freeze them first remove the wrapping then wrap in tin foil.

When you take them out to thaw remove the tin foil and place on a cooling tray.

They are just as good as a fresh one would be.

Freeze pork pie

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with Ann, the taste and texture of a fresh pork pie is far superior to a defrosted one. After defrosting a pork pie the structure, especially the crust is altered because the effects and thawing of ice crystals make it so, although still edible. Look what it does to strawberry's but that's an extreme case. It's always a trade off when freezing, some things freeze well, others don't. I suppose it's a matter of what you prefer really.

Freezing a pork pie.

Personally, if your making a hot water/lard pastry pork pie - then i wouldn't freeze it.

But if your making it with shortcrust or puff pastry and without the gelatine, then yes it will freeze perfectly fine.

Waited until today to reply because I defrosted some slices of game and pork pies yesterday. Have just tried one and the inside and jelly was fine. Most of the hot-water-pastry had lost its crispness, though the edges and decorations were fine. I'd say they're acceptable but not as good.
Cornish pasties freeze perfectly, as in Delia's instructions.
