Grapefruit Marmalade?

Hello!
Please help! I really want to make marmalade for my family as Christmas presents, I have Delia's recipe for orange marmalade and I think I can do it, but I can't locate seville oranges!
Can anyone tell me
a) where I can get seville oranges (i think they are just coming into season)

or
b) can I follow Delia's but use pint/ red or yellow grapefruit instead?

Any advice would be very gratefully received!
Thank you!

Seville Oranges

Sevilles are usually here in Jan/Feb.

Marmalade

If you need the marmalade for Christmas why not make it from tins of Mamade and don't tell! They'll probably not spot the difference. You can always add something alcoholic like Grand Marnier or whisky!

Grapefruit

Yes you can use grapefruit , or a mix of oranges , grapefruit , & lemons.
Seville oranges will be in the shops mid to Late Jan.

Thank you all so much!

I will give it a go with the grapefruit marmalade and if I can will let you know how it all goes.

I really appreciate all your comments and especially about the cheats version with whisky (hee hee)!!!

Merry Christmas!

Grapefruit marmalade

I've been making 5-fruit marmalade for years and it's Mrs Beeton's recipe I use. Orange, grapefruit, lemon, apple and pear. It's wonderful.
Don't miss the Seville oranges when they do come on the market; it's a very short season.

Grapefruit marmalade

That sounds fantastic, might you be able to post Mrs Beeton's recipe?

I have had a look for it online (after leaping for my own Mrs Beeton's cookbook) but I am having trouble finding it.
Thank you!

5-Fruit Marmalade

As requested Ada. Here goes:
1 lb fruit: 1 orange, 1 grapefruit, 1 lemon, 1 large apple, 1 pear. 3 pts water/. 3 lbs sugar.
Wash & skin orange, grapefruit and lemon and shred peel finely (use food processor). Cut this fruit coarsley. Put the pips and coarse tissue in a basin with half-pint water. Soak for 24 hrs. Strain pips and tissue, tie in a muslin bag and place in a preserving pan with the fruit, the peel and all the liquid.
Peel & dice apple & pear & add to rest of fruit. Bring to the boil, simmer for 1-1/4 hrs & until reduced by one third. Remove muslin bag. Add sugar, stir over low heat until dissolved. Bring to boil & boil rapidly until set (about 30 mins). Cool slightly then pot into clean warm jars. Seal & label in the usual way.
Yield 5 lb. I always double up.
Good luck!
