I always put a cross in the base of mine but does anyone know if this makes any difference?

It's supposed to let the thick part cook more thoroughly. I tail mine and cut them in half, or more if large.

I've always cut a cross in the stalk end for the reason stated above but I read somewhere there's no need to do this. Old habits die hard!

Good idea, Gerry, to cut them in half. Dottie, I've heard too that it doesn't make any difference but feel it must help the stalk to cook more evenly before the leaves become too soggy!

sprouts

I have found that if you put your sprouts on April 1st, there is no need to cross the bottoms.

however, if my sprouts are smallish, i don;t cross them, if they are middling size, i just slice the bottom, and if large they cut in half.

am trying to think of an object to compare sizes with. I try to buy small sprout as i prefer the flavour to the large ones, but the large ones are excellent for bubbling and squeaking.
