Overflowing Christmas Cake

I made the last minute christmas cake this evening from the Happy Christmas book. I followed the recipe to the letter. I noticed when filling the tin that it filled my 20cm tin to the very top - but since I followed the instructions I thought it would be OK. Now it has puffed up and is romping around the bottom of my oven. I didn't realise it was necessary to have the parchment paper extend beyond the edges of the tin because she didn't tell me!! Is it totally ruined? Cost a fortune.

Overflowing Christmas Cake

I've been making this cake for many years and never had this happen, in fact not sure what you mean by romping around . . .
Did you use the correct type of flour? How will it be wasted? Cut the top level then turn it upside down to decorate.
