All spice berries

1.99 35g in tesco.

1.50 20g seasoned pioneers (online retailer)

you can get from amazon - but they are expensove when you factor in postage.

or equal amount of ground cinnamon and ground cloves....usually 1/2 or 1/4 teaspoon worth.

Xmas Chutney

Thanks so much for replying. Will certainly be trying your alternative suggestion. I too saw the berries in Tesco, but need three jars for the recipe. I did make the Chutney last year and it was absolutely delicious, but the allspice berries plus apricots, dates, prunes etc., does make it an expensive chutney to make.
Thanks again, Margaret.

Christmas chutney

The amount of allspice in this recipe is queried every year. It seems unfeasibly large.

Try an Indian spice shop for spices like these and never be tempted to buy Supermarket spices; they are very, very expensive. Also some health food shops sell them loose at reasonable prices.
