Treacle in the US

Hi, I have an American friend who wants to make a recipe I sent her but it asks for Golden syrup and Treacle. She might be able to buy Golden Syrup, otherwise probably Corn Syrup will be ok but what can she use instead of Treacle? She has never seen Treacle in the shops there.... They do have a dark Corn Syrup but light and dark Corn Syrup in the same recipe? I have no idea as I don't really know what Treacle is either. I do have some at home and I will try a little spoon to try to understand what it is but we are not at home right now! Does anybody have an answer to this question?

Treacle

I would have imagined that molasses were produced in the US of A.
The Caribbean is rather closer to there than here!

Treacle

Thanks and yes, they do have molasses in the US but my question was about treacle! I sent her a British recipe but I don't know what she could use instead of the treacle she can't find over there!

Treacle versus Molasses

Thanks, I will ask her to try the recipe with molasses and when I return home I will taste the treacle to see whether it indeed tastes like molasses!

Black Treacle

Black treacle and molasses are not the same, the consistency is different. Black treacle is sold in Fresh and Easy (a Tesco store in the U.S.) or try Cost Plus World Market. As a last resort try an import website such as BritishExpress .com or britishdelights.com
