Storing fresh breadcrumbs?

I've made my own fresh breadcrumbs and now am not sure of the best way to store them?

I just want to use them now and again and thought of freezing, but would they be soggy then when defrosted?

Breadcrumbs

I freeze all my left over stale bread as breadcrumbs. Seal in a plastic bag or box. You can grab a handful at a time, they don't freeze in one huge lump. They don't go soggy either. I use them to top gratins, pad out beef burgers, amongst other things.

Storing fresh breadcrumbs?

Hi Gravy. Yes, I've frozen them too, and not had any problems with them going soggy.

Freezing Breadcrumbs

I always keep a bag of breadcrumbs in the freezer. As Tubs said, they don't go solid and you can grab as few or as many as you like.

Breadcrumbs

I do the same - end of a loaf that is not at it's best, crumbed and frozen.

fresh breadcrumbs

how funny - i made turkey escalopes yesterday - and i made too much breadcrumbs, i was going to ask the exact same question.

so that is all you do, just pop into a container freeze then grab how wver much you want in the future?

and you can top your container up at any time? or would you use a new container?

thanks for asking this gravy.

Breadcrumbs

I freeze breadcrumbs without a problem and use them on gratins etc.

I also make them and dry them out in the microwave and store in the cupboard and use them for fish cakes etc.

Breadcrumbs

Sam, I top up the box when necessary, with fresh crumbs, giving it a little shake to mix the old ones into the new. I've come to no harm...........yet!!!
