Cookies (not the American version)

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with 'cookies' - if you visit a website regularly it can help to have it's cookies on your web browser. It downloads images faster and makes surfing the internet better.

You don't say which web browser you use. I have a Mac and use Safari and in the Preferences I tick 'block cookies from third parties and advertisers'. So I enable cookies from websites I visit.
I used to block all cookies, but some sites don't work well and I had to enable them to do online banking. Also for online shopping.
If you use other browsers then you can Google 'enabling cookies' for directions for Internet Explorer, Chrome etc.
Some sites can dump 'spyware' onto your computer but if you have a good virus scanner it should pick that up and delete it.
Or you could delete all cookies every so often - say once a month - just to feel safer:)

Hope that helps you a bit!!

cookies on sites

Don't worry, they're harmless little text files.

Cookies

Cookies are the way that a website will 'remember' you. They're little files that a site will look for when you visit it, so it can save you having to type in the same information over and over again. I run daily virus and spyware tests on my computer to make sure I'm not harbouring any nasties, but always browse with cookies enabled.

There's some new rule that says sites have to let you know that they're storing cookies on your computer, and you have to agree (or not) before they can - which is why you may be seeing sites asking for your permission recently. Nothing has actually changed apart from the 'rule' itself.

Hope that helps!
