How do I store cupcakes?

How do I store cupcakes?

I made some gorgeous Jubilee cupcakes with my daughter which we iced with a buttercream icing and then used 'writing icing' to do Union Jacks etc. They looked fab. Then last night we stored them in plastic cake boxes and this morning they have all bled and run!! I have had the problem before with the sponges going a bit 'wet' if I store them in plastic cake boxes. How can I make them in advance and not have this problem?? Thanks so much.

The advice I have picked up is not to sore cakes in sealed plastic boxes as it causes the icing to sweat and colours to run. It can also cause the cupcake cases to come away from the edges.
Strong cardboard boxes with lids are best.
