Lemon Grass substitute

I am living in a country without access to lemon grass, but enjoy cooking Asian style food where it is often required. Is there any subsitute for lemon grass? I don't know what it tastes like, so have not been able to imagine one.

Lemon grass

Like all the lemon things it smells of lemon rather than tastes of it. Lemon balm, verbena, thyme. You can add some grated lemon jest as a substitute.

It is ridiculously easy to grow. I put some fresh lemon grass stems from the supermarket in a jar of water. Planted them when the roots had grown. I keep the plant indoors in the winter and in the greenhouse in summer.

Lemongrass

You could try lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) instead. It's really easy to grow.
