"Retro" Books

I used to love anything by Dennis Wheatley and I was a great Harold Robbins fan. Also loved Mickey Spillane.... I could go on and on. Also loved the classics - Little Women, Heidi, Gullivers Travels etc. I can also remember reading the Exorcist - propping it up behind the taps when I was washing up - scared out of my wits but couldn't stop reading, the book was much scarier than the film - I guess because my own imagination took over!

Any other retro memories out there?

Retro books

I can remember when I was about 13, my mum read Rosemary's Baby and then gave it to my sister and I would hear them talking about it. Being 'to young' I used to come home from school and went up to my bedroom which I shared with my sister, and read if before everyone else came home. It scared the life out of me!

A few years ago I bought Lace to re-read on holiday.

In its day, it was SO risque, plus the impact of the first page "Which one of you bitches is my mother!" made it totally unputdownable. Of course, it was unbelievably tame second time round.

For some reason I also used to read Wilbur Smith books until I decided the were a bit to gory.
