Wagner blank is that?

Well I was travelling through the Tyrol and Bavaria so thought I'd take Charles Osbourne's "The Complete Operas of Wagner" with me to read in the chariot (as you do).

And it so happened that in one of the pockets of my combats was the full score of the prelude to L&"
246;hengrin - never mind why, this is all true - it's the one where the Holy Grail appears out of nowhere the nips orf again before anyone can get their sticky hands on it.

And the Osbourne book had the theme wrong! I was truly outraged that someone who claimed authority on the subject could make such a ghastly error, you can't publish this kind of book without the most thorough of proofreading by the author for exactly that reason. Also, as it's really hard to get a book with musical quotes included there's a duty to us all to ensure that there are no mistakes.

Rant rant nargle rant, does anyone else care?

Quite surprised.

Quite surprised that there should be such a mistake in Osbourne... I mean it's one of the most famous themes in music. How embarrassing not to have picked it up in the proof reading.....

Osbourne's book was my late husband's favourite reading. He used to carry it with him most of the time. I've been hunting around for his copy ( a bit dog-eared now), but I can't locate it. Must keep searching, because I'm keen to see the error :)

It's not that I don't care. Just I've never come across toe book.
Hope it didn't spoil your travels?!
It couldn't have done when you were in such beautiful places.

It's so good to see the interest in this.

The Complete Operas of Richard Wagner by Charles Osbourne publishd by Michael O'Mara in 1990, ISBN 1-85479-011-0. In my edition the quote's on p113. See bar 2 without the F sharp on the top line, as played over and again by an assortment of instruments.

But it didn't spoil my travels, the scenery was enormous.

Re Robert Donington's "The Ring and its Symbols", haven't read it but will look it out.

Did anyone watch Steven Fry on the subject the other day?

Stephen Fry Wagner

Am hoping to watch it on I Player tonight instead of Eurovision. I recently read a book about the Wagner family and am fascinated. I am quite new to Delia, I often read the posts but this is the first time I have replied.

Well it's very good to hear from you. I'm pretty new as well and I've been made to feel most welcome.

Let us know what you think about Mr Fry.
