i desperatly need this book!!

hi im very new to this site (signed up about 2 min ago so please excuse any mistakes, ill try keep them to a minimum, lol). ok here goes, my mum has a very old copy of delias complete cookery course, actually i cant say really ol coz she got it the year i was born, anyway, it has been passed around the family quite a few times with and without mums say so, and this is where my story begings, dad said i could borrow it so i could prove to my partner i can make better yorkshire puds then him (belive me its not difficult but i wanted to do it properly!)well mum wasnt in so as long as i promised to give it back all was well........uh oh i spilt batter all over my new kitchen, in my panic as it seeped under the cooker i knocked mums kitchen bible into the puddle ripping the back cover off (which in my defense was hanging on by a thread)in the process, with my partner and two kids staying well out of my way and me not sure if to laugh or cry i addmitted defeat realinsing as the soggy pages stuck together that all good things must come to an end. later my 7yr old son said why dont you just buy her a new one, i said because it wouldnt be the same, of course not mum it will be clean and tidy like the one granded borrowed you duh!. well after falling about the room laughing i got to searching online, to my surprise i found loads of sites selling the book i require, the only problem i have (and its quiet a biggy) is mums book was published in 1982 and i really want to get an exact copy, i cant remember what the cover of ours looked like, the sleeve is long gone. the cover (wells whats left of it) is a chocolate brown. the books online have Delia either wearing a red jumper or a flowery dress holding an egg, i dont know which one to get!!!!!
it is really important i find the correct book soon, mum still does not know i have the book and dad is not brave enough to tell her (neither am i).
im thinking of leaving the new book along side the old one, i am now an expert at making delias family chocolate cake with chocolate fudge sauce,(even the builders who re-furbished the kitchen loved it, thanks delia) so im thinking of piping SORRY!! onto the cake leaving it next to the offending object(having a quick peek in the frigde, you never know what your gonne find, she is into mexican dishes at the mo) and running like mad, i reckon i can be back at home with a cup of tea by the time she realises iv snuck into the house and legged it. she is used to me turning up at all hours of the day either as an escape from my noisy partner and kids or raiding her frigde (nothing like your mums cooking). the thing is mum is amazing, she picks up my son twice a week from school while i take my 3yr old to playgroup, she babysits every wednesday some and steve can have some us time and is always feeding us, lending me money of food from the cupboard (which of course i dont attempt to return, coz thats just disgusting) and is my long suffering and very soggy shoulder to cry on_shout at when i need to relase or just sit and watch telly with when i dont want to say anything, she does all this while being a full time carer for my nana and her brother who are both unwell and of course she has her own home to look after, my brother also still lives at home.of course my dad is about (when not working) and is helping out with what he can (or what he is allowed to) he is a great dad and grandad if not ever so silly for lending me the book in the first place ( yes i have decided to blame him!!)but the thing is mym mum is absalutly fantastic and i need this book!!

writting all this down and i know it long winded but once i started i couldnt stop, i realised i never let mummy know what she means to me, so now there is a lot of love going into this search (not just to save my own skin). So could someoneplease please please tell me which version of the book i should bue, its a hard copy of delia smiths complete cookery course reprinted in 1982 not sure what the outer cover should look like!!!

and i promise to tell my mummy how much i love her (as soon as she is talking to me again, daddy will have to fend for himself, sorry dad!!). thanx caz. xx

I have that one!

Haha - loved your tale! I have a copy of Delia's CCC published in 1982 by Book Club Associates. The actual hardback is brown and on the outer cover, Delia is holding an egg and wearing a blouse (might be a dress-can only see the top) which is black/brown background with little orangey flowers and olive coloured leaves. She looks so-o-o young! Best of luck solving your dilemma!

Quite a tale of woe

My goodness, hope your mum forgives you! Welcome to the site and I hate to say it but your tale of woe had me in stitches (sorry!) It sounds as though you know which book to get now though - best of luck.

The book

I loved your tale - I have the 1985 edition that belonged to my mum as well as the three seperate editions. Strangely, the last time I used it was yesterday to make Yorkshire puddings! Good luck with replacing it.
