'Forgotten Skills of Cooking' - - -

by Darina Allen - 600 pages of fascinating stuff. I've found out what a bastible is - please don't tell me everybody knows that as it's not even in my dictionary! I loved the comment, in the introduction, that her daughter made - 'Mum, don't you think some of these skills may have been forgotten for a very good reason?' BTW, Darina Allen runs the world-renowned cookery school at Ballymaloe, Ireland.

forgotten skill

Elpe, boning's a forgotten skill that, apparently, is now coming back! Had a slice of toast and marmalade for supper/dinner, in fact. Tony's put the book on my Xmas list, thank you for info.

LOL, Gerry, knowing how talented you are, I almost believed you!

skills

Thanks, Elpe, but you'll discover my lack of talent if ever you visit. Hopeless at making anything look "professional" or smart. Good quality and wholesome, though. I have a cousin who can make tomatoes into chrysanthemum flowers etc; anything like that is a total mystery to me. BTW not that I want to do it.

what we need a bastible

Iron container with 3 legs and you bake your bread in it before your (peat) fire.
BTW Great book Elpe recommended, very grateful to her.
