The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

I'm only halfway through this, but it was recommended by a friend, and another friend endorsed the recommendation. It's a great read - a true story about the woman whose cancer cells were 'harvested' and went on to be grown in cultures and distributed worldwide for cell and disease research. She was a poor black American - her family were never really informed about the use to which her cells were put. Sounds a lot more tedious than it actually is.

Henrietta worth a read

Read this last year and found it both fascinating and sad; the author manages to mix scientific fact and personal tragedy. Although it sounds as if it should be dull it most certainly is not. What's most amazing is that it is such a little-known fact!
